The recycling process involves sorting plastic products by resin type for
reclamation and using them to produce high-quality recycled resins for use as
raw materials in new products.
To make that easier, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) has developed a
system to identify the types of plastics used in plastic containers. A minimum
of 36 states have enacted legislation requiring these codes, which immediately
identify the resin to recyclers. Each resin used in NALGENE labware has been
assigned a specific number.
Note: The number seven has been assigned to "OTHER" resins. NNI
does not use the word "OTHER". Instead, we indicate the specific resin used to
help identify the bottle material.
These codes have been molded into the base of all NALGENE injection- and
extrusion-molded bottles and containers 500mL and larger.
CAUTION: It is not intended to imply that the bottle may be
recycled or disposed of in the general waste stream after use. Follow
appropriate decontamination and disposal procedures when the bottle has been in
contact with hazardous or infectious materials.
NNI has developed a list of materials, tapes, and brochures that will provide
more in-depth recycling information; and prepared a list of plastic recyclers,
organized by state, to help you locate a vendor for your plastic waste. Call
